Finally the royal baby was born Monday afternoon. But no one had known this until later this evening. So not knowing if Kate had giving birth or not a few of my friends and I went to Buckingham Palace to wait for the royal announcement on the gold plated easel that will display the announcement of the new baby Prince!
After only camping out for two hours by the gates of Buckingham as we drank our ciders and enjoyed a warm summer night, we heard someone scream and run to the gates announcing "it's here!!" everyone ran to the gates of the Palace like there was no tomorrow!
I managed somehow to get to the very front of the main gates to the Palace, but little did I know that wasn't where the easel was going to be displayed, those british, always doing the most random, as my these two british ladies standing next to me had said as they awaited the arrival of the easel. It finally came out and trying to capture any photos was quite difficult with the madness of people pushing trying to get to the front or the fact that their was a huge pillar in my way.
Another hour goes by and I havent been able to see much but the madness of trying to get to the front to see anything continues, news crew everywhere, helicopters flying above the royal palace trying to capture how many people had been there to see the new announcement. The funny thing too is that my friends and I had noticed that the people who were being pushy and wanting to see this were not only British but a lot of Foreigners whether it being us Americans or others from around the world. It is a big deal since the last time this happened was when Prince Harry was born over 20 plus years, so to be here while Kate had given birth was quite a honor to be apart of, and I know it is something I will forever cherish and not forget. After waiting an hour more at the gate, my friend Kasey and I decided to leave and come back later that evening.
As we were leaving I noticed one of the reporters who had been behind the gates earlier that evening so we decided to go up to him to ask him if he knew the baby's name yet and how long the announcement was going to up for. He told us he did not know the name and that the announcement would be up just for 24 hours, which was plenty of time since we wanted to come back in a couple of hours. After he proceeded to as if we were over the age of 18 and told us he was with the Associated Press and wanted to ask us a few questions about what we had witness and how it had been waiting. I started to fill with excitement because it had been ironic that we are here studying journalism and a British Journalist happen to want to interview us and ask us for your opinion, to top it off he was pretty cute too! I have felt pretty lucky to be apart of some of the most amazing history to happen to England recently, with Andy Murray winning the men's single in Wimbledon and being at the gates of Buckingham when the announcement of the new baby prince was announced. I can't believe I am now down to just a few more days in this amazing city, the time truly has flown by!
